Dalkia Canada, through its wholly owned subsidiary Western Bioenergy, has been selected (subject to conclusion of Power Purchase Agreements) by BC Hydro to build, own, and operate 3 biomass fired electricity generating stations in British Columbia.
Each plant will have a net output electricity capacity of 33 MW and will consume some 325,000 tons per annum of biomass which will be sourced from sawmill waste, roadside residues, and trees killed as a result of the pine beetle kill epidemic that has afflicted British Columbia forests over the last 10 years.
Dalkia will build the plants, and then operate and maintain them for the 30 year duration of the Power Purchase Agreements with BC Hydro. Dalkia will also take responsibility for fuel supply, working with local forestry companies, sawmills, and First Nations bands.
